Climatic conditions of Singapore are determined by proximity to equator: the average annual temperature is + 35 degrees. Naturally, in such conditions the living areas require cooling system for comfortable accommodation. The specialists of the architectural bureau Wallflower Architecture + Design made the original and at the same time simple decision to use water for cooling the living space of the house.

Structurally, Water-Cooled House is a two-storey building where the first floor serves as the main supporting structure with living areas, while the second floor is a living space in the form of a light pavilion with a flat roof and glass walls.

The whole surface of the ground floor is occupied by 50 cm deep pool, but this amount of water is enough to maintain the temperature balance in the lower level during the day. All supporting walls of the first floor are made of steel beams and concrete pylons giving stability to the whole structure. The volcanic tuff was used for wall décor of this level, which in combination with the white walls gives the whole house animated appearance. Above the main entrance into the living areas there is a massive visor with large optical glass filled with water of upper pond. The sun’s rays passing through the water create a unique interplay of light at the doorstep of Water-Cooled House.

Living areas of the first floor are located along the long corridor and each room has its own exit to the terrace. The owner wanted to enjoy the lush tropical vegetation of gardening area, so the terrace has been added along the entire perimeter of the villa.

It should be noted that inside the building ponds run throughout the entire length of the corridor acting as a cooling system and also providing home for Aquarian fish.

On the first level there are three bedrooms, living room, office, bathrooms and toilets, utility rooms with a water cooling system and air conditioning. A beautiful spiral staircase decorated with precious wood and glass sidewalls has been integrated in the living room. A staircase leads to the second floor into the living room of the second level, where the outer walls consist of glass panels. If necessary, the panels can be easily shifted and the room will be completely open on all sides. At the same time the visitor of this unique structure feels like being on the island in the midst of a water surface. The entire area of the living space on the second floor is divided by a large wooden partition into a living room and a room with upholstered furniture designed for comfortable stay of tenants or guests of the residence.

Spotlights and wall lights in the pools are used for lighting villa at night, the reflected light creates unique interplay of light over the entire space of the house.

On a personal note we would add that Villa Water-Cooled House is quite a controversial project. On the one hand it is definitely a unique and interesting project. On the other hand, it’s somewhat uncomfortable because too much water is not good. Especially, when it needs to be cleaned, also it’s necessary to take care of fish and etc. For example, in the hallway on the ground floor near the living areas there are also small pools where you can easily fall off. It’s impossible to lean against the wall in the narrow corridor and there can be no talk of walking there. Of course, this is purely our opinion, but in a whole the villa Water-Cooled House is indeed a unique project.

Singapore Real Estate has many luxurious and beautiful villas, but Villa Water-Cooled House, will undoubtedly catch the eye of luxury real estate professionals.
